Event details and what do I need to know:
The Cub Challenge is approximately a 12 mile challenge walk in a figure of eight. The event is open to all Cub Scouts. The Challenge is completed over two days and is a guided walk with written instructions to get outside and enjoy the countryside. We have a tuck shop on route and checkpoints to provide first aid and water. In the evening we have a camp fire, and Bingo to entertain the Cubs.
We encourage you to walk in teams of 4 to 10 people.
Before the event Please complete the further information online and ensure all parents have completed the details on Evboo – you can link your event on OSM directly to Evboo to minimise your admin. We do not require a printed health form, its up to you as a group if you need a paper copy. Ensuring your young peoples data is correct in Evboo will greatly speed up your time signing in. Don’t forget to pick your food!
Ensure you submit you NAN to your district.
Teams are strongly advised to work up their training schedules such that they are competent in walking and carrying such loads, many walkers drop out simply through lack of stamina and not wearing their boots in.
Arriving / Parking Please do not arrive on site before 8:00am and please ask parents not to arrive before 08:30am –and we expect to have over 300 Cubs attending so please ask parents to car share where possible. A leader will need to be available to collect the Cubs as the parents drop them off.
Signing in will be available from 9.00am – 10:30am at the Camp site.
Walking Walking can start from 9:15am Tags will be collected at the end of Saturday, walking will cease at 5pm on Saturday but you should be back at site long before then.Tags will be re- issued on Sunday between 8:30am – 9:30am, however you will not be allowed to start walking or pass through any checkpoints before 9. If you or a member of your team retires during the walk administration must be informed and you must be collected by our transport.
Food Ordered food, will be available from 5.00pm on Saturday evening and from 7.00am Sunday morning. Food tokens will be issued when you arrive at the campsite on Saturday evening. Please ensure you bring your own plates, bowls, cups and cutlery. You will need to bring a packed lunch with you for both Saturday and Sunday.
Menu – Hot and cold drinks are available throughout the weekend.

Roast Pork with seasonal vegetables and roast potatoes.
Jacket Potatoes with a choice of fillings – Beans and Cheese, Chilli, Coleslaw
Beef stew
Apple Crumble, Chocolate Brownie, Cake all served with custard
Sunday Breakfast –
Cooked breakfast – Sausage, Bacon, Egg, Hashbrowns, Beans (Vegan alternatives)

Sunday Lunch – Don’t forget your packed lunch
The Finish We expect teams to be ready to be collected between 2pm and 4pm. You will need to make arrangements for your team/s to be collected from the campsite. Badges and certificates will be given out when you arrive back at the campsite on Sunday. Have a great walk everyone and we hope you all enjoy the event.
Entertainment On Saturday evening there will be a Camp fire and bingo
The Route is approximately 12miles around the surrounding area. The route is made up of Tracks, paths, pavements and some road walking. Good walking trainers or soft boots are recommended. There is a checkpoint approximately every 2miles on the route.
Tuck Tuck will be available along the route selling sweets and non fizzy drinks so cubs may wish to take some tuck money with them.
On the site there will also be a tuck shop. Tuck is pre bagged with prices starting at around 50p
Putting up tents There is no camping Friday night but the site will be open from 4pm should you wish to put up tents or 8am on Saturday morning,
Remember: The Cubs remain your responsibility at all times and must be suitably supervised both when on the route and at the campsite.

Per Team:- First Aid Kit, Mobile Phone, Sun Cream, Foil blanket or survival bag
Per Member :- Waterproofs, Warm clothing, Water Bottle (750ml minimum), Packed lunch, Trainers or walking shoes, Hi Viz Jacket
Suggested kit
Per Member: – Sun Hat, Scout Knecker, Tuck money, Ruck sack,
ALL the equipment and clothing listed in the compulsory section above will be checked by the Scrutineers on Saturday morning before you can register for the event and is liable to be checked at any time during the event by Scrutineers.
